Colonel Prof. Aleksandar Tomić, MD, PhD, is an outstanding expert with years-long experience in the field of vascular and endovascular surgery, who has introduced the most modern surgical procedures in the treatment. He is the Head of the Clinic for Vascular and Endovascular Surgery of the Military Medical Academy, and since 2024 he has been the President of the Serbian Society for Cardiovascular Surgery, which he is a long-standing member of.
He was elected to the position of a Lecturer in 2006, and to the position of an Assistant Professor in 2011, while in 2016 he was elected to the position of an Associate Professor and in 2021 he was re-elected to the same position. He defended his PhD thesis on kidney transplantation at the Military Medical Academy in Belgrade in 2011.
In the course of 2014, Prof. Aleksandar Tomić, MD, PhD, extended his education additionally in the field of thoracoabdominal aorta surgery at the Texas Heart Institute (Houston, Texas, USA) and he has introduced this surgery since that time. He has performed more than 300 kidney transplant surgeries at the Military Medical Academy and 70 at the Clinical Centre in Niš and the Clinical Centre in Banja Luka, where he has been a kidney transplant instructor since 2010. He has introduced a routine practice of the surgery of the inferior vena cava tumour thrombus with renal tumours. He received training in the sclerotherapy for varicose veins in Birmingham, UK, in 2017.
SCHEDULE AN APPOINTMENT
Prof. Aleksandar Tomić, MD, PhD, is an expert in performing the most complex interventions, such as carotid endarterectomy, open repair of the abdominal aortic aneurysms, vena caval thrombosis, surgical treatment of the retroperitoneal, renal and adrenal gland tumours. He also performs reconstructive surgery on
the blood vessels of the abdomen and the extremities affected by a tumour, procedures of hybrid aortic arch repairs as well as thoracoabdominal aortic repair.
Apart from medical training, in 2019, Prof. Aleksandar Tomić, MD, PhF, also completed a specialist academic course at the Department of the Management and Information systems of the Faculty of Organisational Sciences on the topic of “ the Holistic Marketing Approach in the Strategic Development of Health Institutions” and he gained the academic title of the Engineering Specialist in Organisational Sciences.
He has authored more than 30 scientific papers and has participated in international and scientific gatherings where he has presented his works.
