Prof. Mijomir Pelemiš, MD, PhD, is a leading Serbian expert in the area of infectious diseases, specially focusing on the rational application of antibiotics and other medications in the treatment of infections. His years-long work stands out in diagnosing and treating patients with fever of unknown origin as well as persons who exhibit poor general health, feebleness and weakness without clear aetiology. He now offers his expert knowledge and experience to patients by conducting infectious disease examinations at Da Medika Polyclinic.
Education and professional development
He graduated with distinction from the Faculty of Medicine in Belgrade, following which he completed the mandatory residency at the clinics of the Faculty of Medicine by decision of the Council of the Faculty of Medicine. He began his professional career in 1978 at the Institute for Infectious and Tropical Diseases, where he specialised in infectious diseases and clinical pharmacology.
In 1995, he became the Head of the Department for Clinical Pharmacotherapy from its foundation, and he was elected Full Professor at the Faculty of Medicine in 2004.

He has been working at the Institute for Infectious and Tropical Diseases since 1978, and he has been the Head of the Department for Clinical Pharmacotherapy since its establishment in October 1995. During his years-long career, Dr.Mijomir Pelemiš has worked in all clinical departments. He has devoted the major part of his career at the Clinic to examining patients with fever of unknown origin and to modern antimicrobial treatment.
In 2002 he founded the Yugoslav Society for Antimicrobial Chemotherapy (now called the Serbian Society for Antimicrobial Chemotherapy), whose president he has been since its establishment, while he is also the member of the International Society for Antimicrobial Chemotherapy. He was the Director of the Clinic for Infectious and Tropical Diseases from 2001 to 2010 and from 2014 to 2015.
He is a member of the South-East European Society for Antimicrobial Chemotherapy, a member of the Executive Committee of FESCI, a member of the Medical Academy and a Infectious Disease Specialists Section of the Serbian Medical Society as well as a member of the International Medical Association of Bulgaria.
International recognition and scientific work
Prof. Pelemiš, MD, PhD, is a member of international editorial boards of prestigious medical journals:

– “Eurosurveillence” (IF 5.7)
He contributes actively to the development of contemporary antimicrobial treatment and the education of new generations of infectious disease specialists. He has held numerous international conferences and seminars in his capacity as lecturer and researcher, while his papers have been published in leading scientific publications across the world.
